Studies have shown that the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin provide the building blocks for the development of healthy cartilage and connective tissue and may provide the same anti-inflammatory action as ibuprofen with associated relief for Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis (UC), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
The GAG layer of the bladder is primarily made up of glycosaminoglycans like chondroitin and glucosamine. It is theorized that the GAG layer of the bladder is “leaky” in people with IC/PBS and nonbacterial prostatitis. If that is the case, then supplementing your diet with glucosamine and chondroitin might replace the lost protective molecules in your bladder. Several food supplements containing these nutrients have been studied in IC/PBS patients with positive results.
